Debut:
Kangin was scouted by a talent agent and was recommended to sign up for SM Entertainment’s talent competitions. In 2002, Kangin won first place on the fourth annual SM Youth Best Contest and won the best outward appearance award and signed a contract with SM Entertainment.

• Kangin had a unforgettable experience once in school. One summer,he sat in front of the fan. He started opening his mouth and making the ARH sound…so he said he finds it interesting and funny. So he started playing. Suddenly,a fly flew in his mouth. He said it was so accurate that it was stuck in his throat. He had a hard time spitting it out. He never dares to try this again.
• On September 16, 2009.. Kangin was arrested for getting into a fight with two men outside of a bar. An eyewitness said that two men had been provoking Kangin. Kangin had left the bar but the men followed him. Another eyewitness said that Kangin had tried to stop the fight and the surveillance camera showed that Kangin had fought back. The incident was seen as self defence.
• A month later, Kangin was arrested for DUI plus hit and run. The drunk Kangin had gotten into his car and hit a taxi from behind. He then left the car and ran away from the scene. About 5 hours later, with 0.082% alcohol left in his blood, Kangin turned himself over to the police. He was put on hiatus and was not allowed to join the rest of Super Junior’s activities in 2009. Kangin was fined 8,000,000 won and was not imprisoned.

Controversies:

MBC Conflict

A time-slot problem occurred between SM Entertainment and MBC when SM wanted Kangin to stay on SBS’s EHB instead of MBC Sunday Sunday Night Dong-An Club, where Kangin was a regular host. MBC temporarily banned Super Junior from any future performances on MBC, and Kangin was replaced by other Korean artists. Later on, MBC announced that they invited Super Junior to film an exclusive MBC segment, “Giving Children a New Life” despite their r previous decision to ban Super Junior.

Assault Case

Kangin was arrested for his involvement in a fight between 2 men that took place outside of a bar. An eye-witness reported that 2 men entered a room where Kangin and his friend was at, and began arguing. Kangin left the bar, but the 2 men followed him outside and began to display acts of violence. Another report stated that Kangin tried to stop the fight. A nearby surveillance camera caught the fight, and Kangin was brought into interrogation and investigation. It was proven that Kangin only reacted for self defence. After all of Kangin’s future schedules became temporarily postponed and as a result, he left and did his mandatory 2 years of military service.

DUI Hit & Run
Kangin collided into a parked taxi and left the scene of the accident. Kangin turned himself in, to the police 5 hours later. He had a blood alcohol content of 0.0082%. It was recorded as a hit and run, despite Kangin turning himself in. He failed to show up at the police station on the same day for further investigation and had to be called in. SM Entertainment and Kangin released an official apology shortly after, and all of Kangin’s activities were canceled until the end of the year.
