Pre-debut :
Kyuhyun’s singing talents were discovered at the Chin Chin Singing Competition in 2005, where he placed 3rd. He was soon signed under SM, and appeared in a video remake of TVWQ’s single Hi Ya Ya along with other Chin Chin idols. Although Kyuhyun’s addition to the group was a unpleasant suprise to the groups fans who supported the original 12 members, Kyuhyun was quickly accepted and acknowledged by the fans as the 13th member of Super Junior.

Debut:
Kyuhyun’s first appearance with Super Junior was in a news broadcast on May 23rd, 2006 when the group was promoting their single, U. He made his debut performance on May 26th, 2006 at SBS’s I-Concert perfroming “U”. This was also the group’s first return performance as a permanent group. Near the end of 2006, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung were placed in Super Junior’s first subgroup, Super Junior KRY. They debuted on November 5th, 2006 on KBS Music Bank.

April Car Accident:
On April 19th,2007 , Kyuhyun was involved in a car accident with Leetuek, Shindong, Eunhyuk and two managers. They were all hospitalized due to a serious car accident when they were returning from the Super Junior Kiss the Radio show that night. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the car flipped on it’s right side. Kyuhyun was sitting behind the driver’s seat when the accident happened, which resulted in him to be most injured. He had a fractured hip, pneumothorax from fractured ribs, facial scratches and bruises. He was slipping in and out of consciousness and was mute because of the shock. Kyuhyun spent 6 days in the ICU before he moved to a regular hospital room. Kyuhyun was said to be able to walk on his own one month after the accident. He also didn’t need a respiratory machine anymore. He left the hospital on July 5th, 2007 after 78 days. Due to the accident, Kyuhyun’s participation in Super Junior activities were limited. He appeared in EHB ep 7 and onwards with Super Junior. The most memorable one would be, during his recovery when Kyuhyun was a guest star on Star King. He performed a Whole New World with Charic Pempengco even though he was still recovering from his injury.

Don’t Don comeback:
Kyuhyun’s first performance after the April car accident was on September 21st, 2007. He performed “Don’t Don” on KBS Music banks after a long absence. Kyuhyun had to undergo another operation and needed more time to recover from his injuries, so his participation in Super Junior’s second album were limited. It was in December of the same year that he began appearing more frequently with Super Junior.

Super Junior M:

In 2008, Kyuhyun was placed in the 3rd Super Junior subgroup, Super Junior M. This subgroup mainly promotes and focuses in the Chinese music industry. The group specializes in singing Mandarin songs, including verisons of Super Junior’s korean songs. They debuted in China on April 9th, 2008. Not long after, Super Junior M’s debut, they became one of the biggest boy bands in China.

Ear Infection:

During Super Junior’s Bonamana promotions, Kyuhyun went for surgery to repair the damage in his inner ear. (he had ear problems due to inner ear infection he had in High School) He participated in Bonamana’s first few stages, but he couldn’t participate in all. Kyuhyum was back on stage for Bonamana’s goodbye stage on June 25th, 2010.

 

Facts:

• When he was in college, there was a period when he ate a lot and became pretty chubby, but he went on a diet before debut and then he was as skinny as Hyukjae but after the accident he lost 20 kg!
• His family consists of his parents and an older sister and his father is the country’s Revision/Review Association Chairman. The whole family dotes on Kyu a lot, conversely, they are very strict towards his sister.
• When he was 16/17, he joined the Buddy Star Contest and he came in 3rd!!
• Because of the limited space they have in the hotel and he was the last to join Super Junior, he didn’t have a bed,I think he sleeps on the floor (like those you sees in drama) So once they went to KTR, he told the fans and within that 2 hours, the fans sent in messages saying that they want to buy him a bed so he can sleep comfortably, this made the manager shock. So they went to buy a bed the next day. Feeling proud of having a bed finally, he took pics of the bed and posted on the net! -The other members have told him before, Kangin, “You should listen to Hyung’s words!~~” when Kyu was in a ‘rebellious’ mode, lol!
• Apparently, Kyu didn’t suffer from pneumothorax directly from the accident, and when he was in his 3rd year of college, he had it before and went through an operation because of that, and the operating process made him suffer a lot

• He says that when he sleeps, he snores really loudly and he’ll even drool!~
• Because he wanted to cook ramen for the hyungs, but he added too much water, until it became too bland.. and that’s how the “Han Gang Ramen” became famous!
• He isn’t good at cooking, even when he tried to fry some ham, although under Kangin’s reminder, he added sesame oil instead of cooking oil XD
• He said that children always put their socks at their bed fronts on Christmas Eve to wait for Santa’s presents, but because he himself wanted a bigger present, so he hung his pants at the bed front instead (XDDD hahaa . Witty Kyuhyun.)
• Loves to play games, when he was schooling, he discussed games with his friends, and he even told them that he had no allowance so that he could stay at home to play games, instead of going out with them.
• Some of the games he plays are, “Thousand Years/Infinity Gaming (?)”, “Starcraft”, “Diablo” and recently, he’s been playing “Sudden Attack”…
• He especially loves gelato, and his favourite brand is Doublesice (?)
• His favourite movie is “The Big Swindle” , and he also likes “Jumong” as well as “Lovers in Paris”.
• Kyuhyun can always be his cheeky self.

• Kyuhyun has a lot of nicknames. Some being… Bekyu, Bedkyu, Drakyu, Gamekyu, etc. -Kyuhyun always wins games against his members. XD ( so he says. :]] )
• On april 19 2007, Kyuhyun was in an car accident. Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Managers, and Kyuhyun were in the car. Eunhyuk and Shindong’s injuries were not that serious. Leeteuk needed stitches. But Kyuhyun’s state was very serious. it’s said that Kyuhyun was mute for awhile because of the shock.
• Kyuhyun’s fellow members really care about him.
• “Jumong” has 81 episodes and it showed for 10 months, and Kyu followed it diligently!And since he has a soft spot for long, ancient historical dramas, he watched “Dae Jo Yeong” after that.
• He has a glib tongue which no one can beat! Even Kangin can’t handle him! LOL. (Off-screen, that is!)
• He has an older sister.
• He has a sister named Ahra who is 3 years older than him, who is currently studying abroad. During a Shim Shim Tapa radio broadcast in March 2009, apologized to his sister for being busy and not taking the time to talk to her when she calls him. Kyu has stated several times that Ahra loves him so much that she treats him like a son. Kyu’s nickname “Captain Cho” comes from Ahra. Ahra is friends with fellow SJ noonas Sora (Eunhyuk’s sister, Heejin (Heechul’s sister), and Inyoung (Leeteuk’s sister).
• Is right handed.
• Is a Christian and has been singing for his church since he was a little kid. He has also recorded
• some Christmas carols for his church when he was about 8 years old in Korean age. His sister was also in the album. In addition, there are a few videos of him singing hymns at religious gatherings.
• Has confessed that he suffered a middle ear infection when he was younger thus his hearing on his left ear is impaired.
• Has a dimple just below the right corner of his mouth
• His bandmates said in an SS501 Youngstreet Radio guesting in 2006 that Kyu cooks tasteless ramen. However, both Kangin and Siwon have said that Kyu actually cooks well, but only when he makes the food for himself.

• Mentioned on an episode of Star Golden Bell (May 09, 2009) that his favorite member of Shinhwa is Shin Hyesung because this sunbae was able to introduce Kyu to a lot of professional video gamers. Kyu later retracted this statement, in preference for Andy (another member of Shinhwa), who was in the studio at the time.
• When filming TRAX’s MV for “Blind”, Kyuhyun was having a hard time squeezing out tears. The director asked him “do you not have anything sad to think about?” Kyu thought for a moment and said “I get really sad when I cannot play games”. The director sighed and asked “then try crying!” Kyu innocently said: “but after filming this I can play all night… so I’m not sad”

Nicknames:

• obsessed GameKyu – given by the members and managers, because he LOVES playing computer games
•  DraKyu – given by the other members because he loves watching historical dramas, and he was with Jumong.
• KimKyu– given by Heechul because the latter thought the new addition to Super Junior at the time was named Kim Kyu Hyun. Nowadays, Heechul still calls him that as a joke. smile.gif
•  SkiKyu – given by Eeteuk on radio because he was said to be and admits to being good at skiing.
• KyuMong – given by the members and fans, inspired by the 11th episode of the Explorers of the Human Body and his love for Jumong.
• Maknae On Top – his nickname together with Ryeowook because when the two of them were guest DJs on the members’ radio shows, they are fearless and good at bullying their hyungs who cannot control them.
• Lucky – given by his Thai fans because he is the 13th member.
• Fuwuyuan-rrr – also means ‘waiter’ ; although his Chinese name is Kui Xian, Chinese fans sometimes call him this because Kyuhyun likes to say it and does so with a perfect Beijing accent
• Xiao Shi San or Little 13 – given by Chinese fans because he is the 13th member and the baby of Super Junior.
• Ling Dao (Leader) – a nickname Kyu was “baptized” with by Xie Na, a popular Chinese host, who found Kyu to be adorably serious and formal whenever he would say his greetings in Mandarin. His marked confidence also exuded leadership.
• Jagiya– given by Leeteuk and Eunhyuk when Kyu sent them a text message in Sukira near the end of February 2009 saying, “Jagiya, I am stuck in traffic.”
• Scholar Kyu – given by Leeteuk on March 4, 2009, when Kyu successfully answered 10 questions in a game in Sukira. In addition, he is touted to be “the smart one,” having been a recipient of the President’s Award after excellent results of his participation in a Math Olympiad.
• Chokyu– obviously a combination of his surname and the 1st syllable of his first name; given by fans.
• Captain Cho, Chubby Thing, Little Boy – the names Ahra, Kyu’s older sister, called him in her cyworld entry last July 7, 2009. ….Maknae, LordKyu, SulkyKyu, ExcellentKyu, ChicKyu, SexyKyu, BabyKyu, ShyKyu, ModelKyu, Gamekyu, etc.
